These terms apply to the ChinaCue iOS app. By using the app you agree to them. Please read section 2 in particular — it concerns your safety.
ChinaCue is a travel aid. It reads Chinese restaurant menus, explains what dishes are, translates conversation between you and restaurant staff, and produces a Chinese order card you can show to a waiter. It is not affiliated with any restaurant and does not place orders, take payment, or reserve tables on your behalf.
Dish information in ChinaCue comes from a curated database and, for dishes not in that database, from an AI model. Both can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong. In addition:
You are responsible for decisions about what you eat. Use ChinaCue to ask better questions of the people cooking your food — not as a substitute for asking them.
Translation is produced automatically and may contain errors, particularly with dialect, background noise, names, and numbers. Do not rely on it for anything where a mistake would be costly or dangerous.
Translation, menu scanning, dish names, spice levels, preset phrases, and order cards are free and unlimited. Only the in-depth dish explanation is limited.
An explanation is only charged against your allowance when the complete content is successfully delivered. Failures, timeouts, and cancellations are not charged, and viewing the same dish again during your trip is never charged twice.
Payment is taken by Apple under your App Store account. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies; we cannot issue refunds directly. If a purchase is refunded or revoked, the corresponding access is removed.
You must be old enough to enter into a contract and to make purchases under your App Store account in the country where you live. ChinaCue is a travel utility intended for adults and is not directed at children.
Please do not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service, or use it to break the law. We may limit or block access that threatens the service or its other users.
Core features are designed to work offline. Features that require a connection — translation and explanations for dishes not in the offline database — depend on network access and on third-party services, and may be unavailable, slow, or discontinued. We may change or withdraw features over time.
The app, its dish database, and its content belong to us and are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use. You may use the information ChinaCue gives you for your own meals; you may not scrape, bulk-extract, or redistribute the dish database.
The app is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Where liability can lawfully be limited, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the app and its in-app purchases in the twelve months before the claim.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
